Death’s Delightful Doorstep

this poem captures how I felt during my near-death experience…after the car wreck that nearly took my life away. It’s been years since then, but the feelings I describe below are still palpable. I remember the experience as it if were yesterday.

Darkness, go away; Let me be!

You have always felt unsettling to me.

But this time, you don’t seem as eerie as could be.

A million warm candles around me I can’t see,

cradled in the arms of my Creator, I finally felt free.

In His Presence, all the “whys?’s” disappear,

because the everlasting Truth becomes glaringly clear.

I was never alone—not for a single day–

even when I was stumbling along, trying to find my way.

The moment I met God, “I” ceased to exist.

When there was no more “me”, there was nothing left to resist.

So naturally, I merged with everything that was True,

—finally giving up my quizzical quest to learn and pursue.

There is a beautiful Power in surrender, indeed.

Merging with Oneness is what it truly means to succeed.

Love you all ways, always
